UK law requires all genetically modified (GM) ingredients in our food to be listed on the packaging. But new Regulations under the Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act will allow certain types of GMOs, which the UK government is calling “precision bred organisms” (PBOs), to enter the food system unlabelled.

These “precision bred organisms” are defined in the Act as GMOs. The purpose of the Act and its Regulations is to create and codify regulatory exemptions for them around labelling, traceability, environmental damage and liability.

Polling and surveys by the government, the Food Standards Agency and Beyond GM, consistently shows that 8 in 10 people in the UK object to the idea of ‘hidden GMOs’ and want all GM foods – including PBOs – to be labelled.

Please stand with Beyond GM and GM Freeze by signing this petition calling on the government to ensure all GMOs are labelled and traceable so that all UK citizens have the right to make an informed choice about what they are buying and eating.
